Product information
All jac&hugo jewellery is completely handcrafted. The design of my jewellery is to be a little organic in nature, giving it a tactile element that is delicious to wear. Slightly asymmetrical shapes are intentional and part of the character, design and charm of each piece.
Gold
In Australia we've used 9ct gold for generations. It's been an entry point for owning real gold jewellery. With rapidly rising costs in the gold price together with the weightiness of my pieces, I do a lot of work in 9ct gold. It's a beautiful soft colour that wears just as well as higher grades. If you would like a quote in 10ct, 14ct or 18ct yellow, white or rose gold, please get in touch.
Sterling Silver
I use a quality of Sterling Silver that resists tarnishing longer than regular .925 Sterling silver. To be called Sterling Silver, 92.5% of the alloy must be pure silver and the remainder can be anything else to make it strong enough for jewellery. But often the remaining 7.5% is an inferior metal and causes early tarnishing of your piece. To avoid this I use Argentium Sterling Silver that has a higher silver content, (94.5%) see below.
What is Argentium?
"Argentium silver is purer than standard Sterling... It has increased tarnish resistance, a whiter colour, antibacterial and hypoallergenic properties... These benefits make the silver better for the wearer and gentler on the environment as less chemicals are used in production." https://www.argentiumsilver.com/faqs
Bronze and brass items
Both bronze and brass will develop a darker patina over time. They will be given a wax seal before leaving me, but it is the nature of base metals to do this. It can quickly be buffed with brasso (or similar) or for a matt finish, use a fine grit sand paper to reveal the lovely pink gold or yellow gold colour again. It's like owning a mini sculpture. So If you order bronze or brass please be prepared for this journey!
